arena4finance CEO, Debra Adams, co-founds EYE Nepal an Early Years Education charity

arena4finance CEO, Debra Adams has spent the past five years raising funds for school projects in Nepal and she is delighted to announce the co-founding of a new charity called EYE Nepal, a small charity dedicated to enhancing the life opportunities of the poorest children in rural districts of Nepal through better early years education.

Debra first visited Nepal in 2014 when she took part in a charity trek and community project for the UK based charity Springboard. This was a life changing experience and ignited her love for the Nepalese culture and people. She has since made several further visits and is passionate about creating equal opportunity for young people to access education based on sustainable solutions

EYE Nepal provides learning programme packages in Nepali, along with teacher training, mentoring, ongoing assessments and community support for early years classrooms.

The four co-founding trustees of Eye Nepal recognise that early childhood is a time for practical activities and play, and that learning must be fun. In all of the Kindergartens and Early Year Classrooms EYE Nepal ensures there is a bright and welcoming environment with soft carpeted flooring, brightly painted walls and ceilings. The charity ensures each setting is supplied with specially designed furniture, bookcases, storage shelving and break out areas, as well as a range of educational materials including dual language books, artwork, creative games, stationery and sports equipment. This is a contrast to many remote rural primary schools which are often no more than shacks offering rote learning with under qualified teachers, poor attendance and very low literacy levels.

The charity aims to achieve three main objectives:

Equality - To ensure that the early years education in the schools we support is inclusive and equitable in terms of access, participation and outcomes with a particular focus on those at the margins of society.

Quality - To increase learning through enhancing the relevance and quality of the learning environment, the curriculum, teaching and learning materials and teaching methods.

Resilience - To provide training and methodologies to strengthen school level management.
